{"id":7496,"date":"2016-11-21T06:56:45","date_gmt":"2016-11-21T10:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.howtocopewithpain.org\/blog\/?p=7496"},"modified":"2025-09-04T14:47:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T18:47:06","slug":"7496","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.howtocopewithpain.org\/blog\/7496\/7496\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Get Even More Enjoyment!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>This article is in our series about\u00a0<strong>increasing happiness<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>life satisfaction<\/strong>. \u00a0Many people with chronic pain can\u2019t\u00a0decrease their pain. \u00a0So another way to live a more enjoyable and fulfilling life \u2013\u00a0perhaps even more\u00a0important \u2013\u00a0is to\u00a0increase the positive. \u00a0That\u2019s what we\u2019ll look at in this series.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s look at\u00a0ways to <strong>increase our enjoyment<\/strong> of pleasures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>vary your pleasure<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>use surprise<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pleasures are\u00a0positive, enjoyable experiences. \u00a0One of my pleasures is chocolate ice cream. \u00a0However, if I were to eat that every day for every meal, it wouldn&#8217;t seem special and I would actually begin to like it less. \u00a0One way to get the most out of pleasures is to\u00a0<em>vary\u00a0<\/em>them. \u00a0Here are some ways to vary pleasures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>different times of day (a great cup of coffee in the morning or a special piece of chocolate for dessert after dinner)<\/li>\n<li>different types of pleasure (use your senses &#8211; sight, hearing, touch, smell)<\/li>\n<li>different intensity of pleasures (thrill to fun to relaxation)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another way to increase your pleasure is to plan surprises. \u00a0You can do this for others (they will get pleasure and you will enjoy surprising someone else) and make a plan with a friend or family member to surprise each other with enjoyable things.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your assignments:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Add a different type of\u00a0pleasure each day.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Add a surprise pleasure once this week.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article is in our series about\u00a0increasing happiness\u00a0and\u00a0life satisfaction. \u00a0Many people with chronic pain can\u2019t\u00a0decrease their pain. \u00a0So another way to live a more enjoyable and fulfilling life \u2013\u00a0perhaps even more\u00a0important \u2013\u00a0is to\u00a0increase the positive. \u00a0That\u2019s what we\u2019ll look at in this series.
