Both relaxation and visualization\u00a0reduce pain by helping\u00a0you\u00a0relax.\u00a0An\u00a0image that may people enjoy\u00a0is the beach, but you can use any place or thing that you love.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.musicforgifts.com\/mp3\/environment\/3.mp3\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.howtocopewithpain.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/girls-on-beach.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"girls on beach\" src=\"http:\/\/www.howtocopewithpain.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/girls-on-beach-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.howtocopewithpain.org\/resources\/relaxation-visualization-exercise.html\"><strong>Visualization exercise<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are several ways to use this exercise:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>play the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.howtocopewithpain.org\/resources\/relaxation-visualization-exercise.html\">audio of the exercise<\/a> on our website<\/li>\n<li>read through the exercise and then do it from memory (it doesn&#8217;t\u00a0have to be done exactly as I&#8217;ve written it)<\/li>\n<li>tape record the exercise yourself, then play it back and listen (try recording it in\u00a0your cellphone!)<\/li>\n<li>have someone else read or record the exercise for you<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you picture your\u00a0image,\u00a0use as many of your senses as possible with visualization &#8211;\u00a0what you hear, smell, see, feel, etc. Some people find one favorite relaxation exercise and do just that one, while others like to vary the ones they use.
