We’re looking in this Friday series at pain organization websites that have great sections for patients. A reader Harry suggests:
Celiac Disease is an inherited autoimmune disorder. Cells from the immune system damage the intestine when the person eats gluten (for example, in wheat), and this damage can cause malnutrition. Common symptoms include abdominal pain and bloating, weight loss and diarrhea. Until treatment, people may also be very tired, irritable and depressed.

Surprisingly, many people don’t even know they have this disease, because its symptoms can mimic other diseases such as irritable bowel disorder, lactose intolerance, and psychiatric disorders.
The site offers helpful information about the disease and its treatment, as well as:
- food and drugs which contain gluten
- restaurant guides
- cookbooks
Thanks, Harry, for your suggestion. You’re invited to send in your own recommendations of professional organizations related to pain, along with why you like them, to Ask the Doctor, and I may use them for future Friday posts.
(My disclaimer states that, while I believe these websites that I feature are sound and valuable sites, I don’t monitor what they post, and as such, I don’t specifically endorse the information or services provided by them. These organizations are solely responsible for the information they provide.)

I hope you don’t mind my suggesting but there’s an excellent website about food, World’s Healthiest Foods. They have an article which might be of interest to sufferers
Celiac Disease: Which foods can I have in order to get the recommended daily amount of fiber?
Here’s the link

The really great thing about this site is that you can ask a question and they reply promptly.
