A few milligrams perhaps and you are bound to go ahead with the thirst of a school bully wishing hard to exhibit his strength each moment. If You Keep Wishing To Be A Zebra, You’ll Miss The Joy Of Being A Horse… Acceptance Of Our Pain

April 30th, 2007 · No Comments

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and working with patients around acceptance of pain.  Of course, we’re all at different stages along the path to acceptance.  Here’s someone who still has a way to go on the path of acceptance:

Acceptance frees up a whole lot of energy we can use to both help ourselves get better, instead of fighting pain, and live our lives despite pain.  It lets us move from wishing things were different to:

  • making the best life possible with the limitations we have, and
  • focusing on the good of our own situations

Sort of not wishing you were a zebra, but celebrating your horse-ness!
