There is a light in this world,
a healing spirit
more powerful than any darkness we may encounter.
We sometimes lose sight of this force
when there is suffering, and too much pain.
Then suddenly,
the spirit will emerge
through the lives of ordinary people who hear a call
and answer in extraordinary ways.
-Mother Teresa
Today we’re continuing to share what we’ve found out there on the great community of the internet, both websites and blogs, that are helpful and interesting. My goal is to help us learn from each other. You’re invited to send in your recommendations for favorite websites and blogs related to pain, along with why you like them, to Ask the Doctor, and I may use them for future Friday posts. (My disclaimer states that, while I believe these are sound and valuable sites, I don’t monitor what they post, and as such, I don’t specifically endorse the information or services provided by them. These organizations are solely responsible for the information they provide.)
Today’s website is beliefnet.com. For people with pain, it has some great relaxation exercises you can close your eyes and listen to. You can sign up for daily inspirational emails. They also have a fun quiz to see which religion your beliefs match most closely with.
I have a particular interest in the connection between pain and suffering, and religion and spirituality (more about this in future posts). I believe that one’s spiritual traditions can be a source of comfort during difficult times such as chronic pain. I also believe that tough situations, like coping with chronic pain, can help us grow spiritually.
