Update on Giving in My Giving Experiment

February 6th, 2012 · 1 Comment

Join me for my month of the Giving Experiment

I’m really enjoying all of your ideas for giving!  They’re inspiring.  And I love the idea of so many “giving elves” all over the world.

Here’s an update from over the weekend on my giving:

Friday – I offered to teach some sessions of sports psychology skills to teams and athletes at a local school.  This is an area I’m expanding into, and I’ll have fun sharing it with kids.

Saturday – We took one of my sister’s dogs on a long walk.  One of her dogs just had surgery, so the other hasn’t gone on his usual long walks.  So this was a treat for him.

Sunday – One of my daughter’s friends wasn’t feeling well, so I helped her plan a “get well” basket.  My daughter is naturally generous and kind, and sharing a day of the Giving Experiment with her was fun.

Monday – This morning I emptied the dishwasher and did all the dishes in the sink.  The dishwasher is my daugher’s chore, and it was my husband’s turn to do the dishes.  So this was a nice surprise for them to start the week.

I continue to enjoy the experiment.  I find that, in addition to the specific gift that I “count” as that day’s gift, I usually do several other little things too.  So it has definitely focused me on helping, sharing, and being kind.

On days when I haven’t planned something specific to do, but have the intention to remain open to giving opportunities, I feel slightly concerned if I’ll find something or not.  Do you notice this too?

Please continue to share what you’re doing, and how you’re finding this month-of-giving experiment!

I hope I am posting in the right places. . . Yesterday I was out taking my Mom to a doctor appointment and I saw a homeless man in a bus bench. I ran into a pizzeria and bought him a slice and soda and brought it to him. I felt better knowing that he at least had one meal that day. I would have thought of doing this before, but probably wouldn’t have followed through. This is a great experience, thanks for making me aware of it!
