How Can Sushi And Shampoo Cause Pain?

Please support my RSDSA charity bike ride!

Because of my interest and work in pain, I’ve been noticing what types of activities can contribute to pain.  Here are some unusual jobs and activities I’ve come across lately that can lead to pain disorders.  Do you have any to add to the list?

Sushi makers

We were having a family dinner at our favorite Japanese restaurant, and sat at the sushi bar.  I watched the sushi masters quickly roll rice and sushi over and over, so I asked if they get pain.  And guess what…  yes, indeed.  Repetitive movements caused them discomfort.

Hair dressers

Using styling equipment at odd angles and holding up their arms for long period of time can lead to pain in this group.  As well, the repetitive movements of using scissors can also cause discomfort.

My stylist is also a teacher, and she always teaches about pain prevention as part of her hairstyling classes.

Poker players

The quick, repetitive movements associated with serious card playing can cause aches and pains in poker players’ fingers, hands, and arms.

Unfortunately, we often over-work and stress our bodies.  Are there any other jobs or activities you think of that can contribute to pain?

For today, take it easy on your body and say thanks for all it can do!
