A few milligrams perhaps and you are bound to go ahead with the thirst of a school bully wishing hard to exhibit his strength each moment. Girls would flock around and men would gesture to clear from you vicinities. That’s why the advice is always to buy Cialis, to buy it and taste the true flavor of life.

Meme: A Puzzle, Inside A Riddle, Wrapped In An Enigma

December 6th, 2007 · 6 Comments

Blogging, and the web in general, are full of language and abbreviations unique to these universes.  Can you guess the meaning of these?  (Let’s see who’s first to get them correct, in the comments!)

  • Vlogger
  • Dark Blog
  • SEO
  • NSFWAB

How about these blog definitions, which as I psychiatrist I find cute:

  • GAD - “Google Adsense Disorder,”  repeatedly checking your adsense earnings
  • Blogoholic - addicted to blogging

  • Blogophobia - fear of blogs and blogging

So here’s a blog word…  ”meme.”  Last week I was sent one, which is a sort of chain letter, but through blogs.  Another blogger “tags” you.  You write the answers to the meme’s questions on your blog.  Then you pass the meme on by tagging different blogs…

Perhaps more interesting that my answers (below) is the info out on the web about memes.

How do you pronounce meme?

Here are quotes of what I found…

  • best way to put it, is simply say it rhymes with ‘dream’
  • some pronounce it so it sounds like ‘mem’ (from mem-ory)
  • I pronounce it ‘maim’
  • I’ve always, always said ‘mem’ (rhymes with ‘gem’)
  • meme‘ is French for ’same,’ and that fits in pretty well with the whole idea of memes
  • the word derives from the Greek, mimema, which means ‘that which is imitated’
  • I always thought it should be pronounced ‘me-me,’ since that’s always what they’re about.

So that clears that up ;)   Also, see here for a funny R-rated discussion of meme.

What does the word meme mean?  Unrelated to blogs,

  • An idea that, like a gene, can replicate and evolve.  Memes are the cultural counterpart of genes.  (The topic or questions get slightly changed when the meme is passed.)
  • A unit of cultural information or basic idea that’s transferred from one person to another, and subjected to mutation, crossover and adaptation.  (From Richard Dawkins’ 1976 book, The Selfish Gene.)

Sooooo……
I’ve been tagged for a meme challenge by In Sickness and In Health.  The Rules:

  • Link to your tagger, and post these rules on your blog
  • Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird
  • Tag 6 people at the end of your post by links to their blogs
  • Let them know they’re tagged by leaving a comment on their blog

So here are 7 facts about me…

  • Owls, squirrels and octopi are my favorite animals.  I’ve been trying to see an owl in nature for about 3 years, so I’m always looking in trees, and even once got my husband to sit in a dark football field with me, listening for a whooo).  No luck yet :(
  • My retirement dream is being a volunteer in the Monterey, California Aquarium, teaching visitors about octopi.
  • My other retirement dream is teaching in a rural school in Pakistan, that teaches boys and girls.
  • I was chosen to be on one of our local tv stations about 10 years ago, for a “have your sports dream come true” contest, and got to play tennis with a top ranked player.
  • I won the ”Will Make the Best Girlfriend” award in 7th grade.
  • I was voted “Biggest Blusher” in 6th grade - and, yes, blushed when I walked up to pick up the award.
  • I’m secretly addicted to American Idol, Survivor, Hell’s Kitchen, and last but least, the new Gossip Girl.  (I was at a party a while back where the discussion was, ‘what kind of idiots watch reality tv?’  Hmmmmm  :)

The blogs I’m tagging are:

I assumed you were a male until I read this post. Hmmm. Old stereotypes die hard.

A few years back, a psychiatric newsletter I get announced an evening program for psychiatrists and their wives! Hmmm.

So I wrote in to say they were a bit behind the times, and then told them this riddle…

A child was brought into an ER after a car accident and needed immediate surgery. The surgeon was paged, but upon taking a look at the child said, “I can’t operate on this patient. He’s my son.”

The surgeon was not the child’s father. How could this be?

    What’s the answer?

His mother. Yup, we’re not always what we seem to be.

Thanks for tagging me. I’d been feeling left out having seen ALL these other bloggers getting tagged (sort of feels like being one of the last to be chosen to be on the football team!). Your items were fun but I loved reading your stuff about blogging. I’m going to steal it for my post - it’s SO good. But promise to link to you! FYI - next week I’m starting another blog, WorkingWith Chronic Illness (seeing a pattern here?) Just a little shameless grabbing of press.Rosalind Joffe

I wonder what gave the gender identity away. Was it the Gossip Girl addiction? I don’t think it’s legal or moral for men to watch the show.

But, in my experience, some men often watch (while pretending not to), while their better halves enjoy the show!

I wanted to research this subject and write a paper. Your post what a thousand words would not. Nice job.
