Cynthia, this is actually 1 of several ways doctors have to be sure patients aren't overusing narcotic medication. Do no take it personally - unless there's a clear attitude of suspicion towards you.

Doctors are required to do things like this, to document they're being careful of narcotic use. You probably are asked to do urine drug screening too.

What may have helped prevent a misunderstanding is if your doctor explained counting medication as part of a "narcotic contract." This is an agreement that patients sign before getting narcotics, that includes 1) no over-use, 2) not getting prescriptions from more than 1 doctor, etc.

I'd suggest having a discussion with your doctor to better understand why (s)he is doing this.

I wake up in pain. It wears me out before I even start my day. I work full time and if needed, take a nap during lunch hour. This helps me make it through my day. I joined a water exercise class which does help. At times I really have to push myself to attend because the class is in the evening and the pain is more intense at the end of my day. I find RSD a real chore........

[...] HTCWP: My impression is that you have worked hard to understand pain, and to figure out what will work for you. What’s been helpful in learning to cope with having chronic pain? How about your attitude? J: Distraction is wonderful. Focusing away from pain. I have to remember to stop often and change activities and pace myself. It really isn’t worth overdoing things because the time for recovery is greater than the time spent on the activity.
This has always worked for me, without me really knowing that I was "spending" a dollar!ha
I use my time and energy that way by giving and taking away. Good idea with the $1.00, I won't forget this one. Thanks.

This info is great! I learned, over the years, instinctively/subconsciously to "sort of" do this. Thank you for putting "words" & specific instructions to it. Now I can more effectively apply it.
