I haven’t fallen under the spell of the Harry Potter series, although, having a young child, I’ve seen the first 1 or 2 movies. But when I googled “Harry Potter and pain,” I came across the Cruciatus Curse, the dark magic spell that “inflicts excruciating physical pain on the victim.”
Hey, maybe that’s why we’re in pain… we were hit with a curse. Does anyone know the reverse spell???
So where does Harry go to learn to cope with pain after being hit by the spell? Perhaps J. K. Rowling lets him visit How To Cope With Pain in her upcoming book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We’ll find out July 21st.
But here’s why you’re really reading about Harry Potter on this blog…

An organization has created a way to have Harry Potter sales help children around the world. They say:
For each Harry Potter Book that is sold through this website, we will donate a total of $1 split between two great charities, Save The Children and The Global Literacy Project.
Save The Children helps children in need in more than 40 countries around the globe. Over 91% of their donations go directly towards programs that help children, plus they are a highly esteemed charity by numerous charity review organizations.
The Global Literacy Project develops community-based literacy initiatives throughout the world, primarily through the creation of libraries and library support programs in rural schools and community centers in Africa, South Asia and the Caribbean.
Our goal is to donate one million dollars by selling one million Harry Potter books by the end of 2007. With the upcoming release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and the tens of millions of copies that will be sold, plus all the copies of previous versions people will be buying to catch-up, we think we can do it… with your help!
They ask you to help out by buying any Harry Potter book here:
If you buy one, let me know here and we’ll keep a running tally of how much How To Cope With Pain helps the cause! Spread the word…
Thanks!
And my spell to you… Orchideous………………

Coming up next week on July 4 …… a blog carnival about Pain and Independence. July 4 is Independence Day in the US - read posts by some great pain bloggers about how independence relates to coping with pain!
